Where were you August 2nd?

August 2nd, 2016 marks the one year anniversary of the worst storm our area has seen in at least 90 years.  That statement according to my neighbor Leonard Thorson who turns 90 this year.

Glen Arbor's Big Storm_August 2 2015_cards for sale_IMG_1625 copyBig Glen Lake resident and friend, Charlie Wallace captured much of the storm as it swept into the area on August 2, 2015 at 4:08 PM.  These notecards are part of his documented aftermath of this devastating storm and are available at various retail outlets in the area, including Northwoods Home & Gift, proceeds benefit the Glen Lake Association. For anyone wanting to see more photo’s, I recommend picking the book up called Stormstruck which Sue Boucher has available at The Cottage Book Shop.

Where were you last August 2 at 4:08?

I was feeling much like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz as I desperately tried to open my front door to take cover inside after pedaling my bike home from Sleeping Bear Bay where I might have storm watched just a little too long. As trees dropped around me in our yard like a game of dominoes gone bad, I finally got inside in time to race to our lower level with my dogs, Rocky and Rosie.
